Discovering the mystery of Tutwa
Born of a love for the region and its people, the Steenkamp family, 4th generation settlers to the area, had the visionary foresight to opened their 16 000 ha private game reserve to the public. Inviting guests to share and experience the unique Green Kalahari – hauntingly beautiful, timeless as its ancient past and settled in its future between two of South Africa’s iconic regions: the harsh and unforgiving Richtersveldt, and the mighty Orange River.
Albeit a desert, the reserve sustains a multitude of animals including leopard, giraffe, zebra, gemsbok, springbok and other antelope species; meerkat, klipspringers and spring hare, along with a diverse range of nocturnal animals: aardvark, aardwolf, porcupine and more.
Over the past five years, Tutwa has focussed on various conservation projects and is committed to resting and restoring the land to its natural state; and over time, as the reserve rejuvenates, game re-introduced.
